Artist album Van Nispen
The original owner of this album, Samuel Rudolphus van Nispen (1733-1775), had the plan to make a friendship book out of it, but it never happened. His descendants used the book to paste in a large quantity of drawings, watercolours, gouaches, portrait silhouettes and engravings. And he did this with such zeal that the album literally burst with them. These efforts resulted in an extensive collection with contributions by Johannes Bosboom, David Bles, Jan van Ravenswaay and Johannes H.B. Koekkoek.

A man's head by Charles Eyck
A highlight are the two watercolours by Anton Mauve. These are not pasted in, but painted directly into the album. This fact proves that there must have been personal contact between Mauve and the most important collector-owner, L.J. van Toulon van der Koog. Both watercolours were painted in The Hague in 1875. The first shows a number of fishing boats lying on the beach, the second a farmer's wife with a goat.
