Regulations Anny Antoine - Louis Koopman Scholarship
Purpose of the scholarship
The KB National Library and the Anny Antoine/Louis Koopman Foundation wish to promote awareness and use of the Antoine/Koopman Collection. In order to promote academic research into the collection, the Foundation has established two scholarships. With these scholarships for academic research, the Foundation strives to gain more insight into the art-historical and literary significance of the collection or parts thereof. The results ([web]publications, presentations, etc.) contribute to national and international research in the field of twentieth- and twenty-first-century books in a broad sense.

- Dutch-French cultural relations in the interwar period
- Patronage: Louis Koopman, a patron with a mission
- Anny Antoine as a collector of literature
- The changing role of female authors and artists
Book history
- Collecting (French) literature in the Netherlands and France in the 20th century
- Collaboration between French publishers and printers on bibliophile editions
- Dutch and French publishers and typography in the 20th century
- Materiality: French authors in bibliophile and precious editions
- Materiality: typography of avant-garde magazines in relation to books
- Changes in the production process of artists' books
- “Reading” artists’ books
Application procedure
Applications for scholarships can be sent to the curator of the collection. Applications will be assessed by the Academic Advisory Committee, which will draw up a recommendation to be submitted to the Board. Candidates will be informed of the Board’s decision as soon as possible. Payment of the scholarship will be arranged in consultation with the candidate.
1. Anny Antoine Scholarship
Applications for the Anny Antoine Scholarship can be submitted once a year. The scholarship amounts to a maximum of €10,000, which may be supplemented by travel and accommodation expenses for research in other Dutch or foreign collections.
The following are eligible for the scholarship:
- Recently graduated academic researchers
- Master’s and research master’s students in the field of literature, art and book history, enrolled at a Dutch university
Conditions
- Presentation of a research proposal based on the formulated main themes and research areas; with a curriculum vitae and at least one reference from the academic world
- Duration of the project: Maximum 18 months
- Submission of a budget for travel and accommodation costs and any other expenses
- Appointment of results, for example: completed copy for an academic publication; an artistic form of expression; a public performance
- The language of the publication or presentation is Dutch, English or French
- In order to receive the expense allowance, candidates must provide a general overview of their expenditure with supporting documentation
- Candidates must submit a writing sample for assessment
- In all publications resulting from the grant, the candidate must mention the name of the grant and that of the Anny Antoine/Louis Koopman Fund and the National library.
2. Louis Koopman Scholarship
Applications for the Louis Koopman scholarship can be submitted twice a year. The scholarship amounts to a maximum of €5,000, which may be supplemented by travel and accommodation expenses for research in other Dutch or foreign collections.
The following are eligible for the scholarship
- Master's students in all disciplines, enrolled at a Dutch university
Conditions
- Presentation of a research proposal based on the formulated main themes and research areas; with a curriculum vitae and at least one reference from the academic world
- Duration of the project: maximum 12 months
- Submission of a budget for travel and accommodation costs and any other expenses
- Appointment of results, for example: a thesis or completed copy for publication; an artistic form; a public performance
- The language of the publication, presentation or other end product is Dutch, English or French
- In order to receive the expense allowance, candidates must provide a general overview of their expenditure with supporting documentation
- Candidates must submit a writing sample for assessment.
- In all publications resulting from the scholarship, the candidate must mention the name of the scholarship and that of the Anny Antoine/Louis Koopman Fund and the National library.

Laureate Bregje Hofstede
In 2015-2016, Bregje Hofstede was the first researcher to receive the Louis Koopman Scholarship. She examined the relationship between the handwriting of the painter Pablo Picasso and the poet Pierre Reverdy in the artist's book Le chant des morts (1948).
